the previous owner of my truck owns a welding shop, and i still work for him :) and im sure he would do anything to help my project since he wants it to get in good hands. so im going to have him cut the bumper off, weld on some new rear framage, weld the radio mount holes up, cut off the scrap metal mounts in the bed, and a few other things :)

Thats nothing man. Almost the whole passenger side of my truck is bondo. Same thing, some places a 1 inch thick. I guess way back when, the truck hit down the whole side.

My great uncle George would be rolling in his grave if he saw that mess. He went to work for a local Ford dealer after he returned home at the end of WWII.He stayed there until he retired and passed away about a year afterwards. He was an old school body man.Gas weld, lead, hammer and dolly. Those guys are a vanishing breed. :(

ok ok so its not that bad. but what about all the welded peices of metal in the bed, the frame torched off, and the cheby bumper welded on in many places :D
im hoping the 69 will be 100% bondo free like the 71, but i think its going to take a little bit :( .

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!- i did alot more than it looks in the pictures. my dad and i took the hood off, i have every bolt out of each innerfender, and the core support has only 2 bolts still on, which i cannot break loose with a ratchet and huge hammer. im going to try a metal pipe as an extension for more leverage next. i also got the lower valence off, with the help of my dad getting a bad bolt out.

ive been working on the truck all saturday and sunday even though it looks like a few hours.
we got the a/c lines diconnected too, so ill be yanking the unit out of the interior too soon.

im hopefully going to get the truck towed down to they welding shop i work at and have a bunch of stuff done. including borrowing the CHERRY picker 8)
i should have the inner fenders out soon, and those will be stripped and painted. then new springs in the hinges. then a clean POR-15ed frame. then a painted firewall. then a freshly painted engine back in.

i cant wait :D

Update:
i wasnt going to update until tomorrow night since now i still have sunday to work, but im just too bored. ill update again tomorrow if enough gets done :D

heres what i did:
-removed the inner fenders
-removed the core support with 4ft. bar and pb blaster(i love this stuff!)
-removed all heater hoses
-removed a/c compressor
-took apart the core support (radiator etc)
-took off and broke the windsheild squirters
-removed the windsheild trim
-removed fan blade
-scraped a few tons of mud and grease off frame.
thats all i can think of...

what i had to use to get a coresupport bolt off...
Image

getting a little crowded in here...
Image
this makes me wonder how beautiful the truck must of looked new! (after scraping off mud to reveal nice frame)...
Image

i dont understand why the passenger side is so non greasy...
Image
when the drivers side is so greasy... :?
Image
it really look like it in the pic, but this isnt a rust hole. theres a inch thick stack of crud though.
Image
i couldnt find a screw that i lost, until i found it hiding in my shoe lol
Image
i cant think of much else to do tomorrow. im trying to not start on the rest of the truck until i get the engine pulled/rebuilt and the firewall painted and everything else painted(inner fenders, hinges, latches, etc.) and put back together so i have room again for cab stuff.
i think the engine is really close to being pulled. i dont have a plan for how i will pull it though  . i can borrow a cherry picker, but where will i pull it is the question.

Hey Ryan, do you happen to have a buddy with a wrecker? They don't require as much muscle as moving a loaded cherry picker.

BTW, looking good.

well here is how it goes... i am still working for the PO of this truck (Hal) in the welding shop. i have worked all i need but im going to keep working :) . He has one of those huge car lifts. he also has a cherry picker and a bumpside f600 with a big crane on the back. this crane truck runs poorly(crane works) but he was driving it around once. i was think that could be how to get the cab and bed off, but we will probably use man power for that.

but what i cant figure out is how we can get the engine pulled. the truck wont be running obviously and will be hard to get it in and out the sideyard(the only room left for a truck at our house). and i dont know where we will put the engine to rebuild.
im in a bit of a pickel.

Would it help to go ahead and remove the cab and bed before the motor?

i think i got a plan...
i still havent ran it over with the boss though :D

1)trailer the truck to welding shop to to have some stuff cut off and some radio holes welded up. +borrow engine puller
2)get the truck back and do all body work in and out + in bed.
3)pull engine and take everything off firewall.
4)rebuild engine
5)strip/ paint firewall
6)paint inside cab
7)paint exterior cab
8)POR-15 front of frame
9)work on allignment
10)put engine back in and reassemble firewall
11)reassemble front end and interior.(ill allready have fenders/inner fenders/hinges etc painted)
12)fire the truck up and back it into shelter to remove bed and put it in the shelter
13)paint the bed
14)meanwhile, take truck to welding shop and have the rear foot of the frame welded back on.
15)park truck in front of house(hopefully the neighbor wont put another note on my truck!)
16)paint rear of cab while truck is in front of house (at least when the dust gets on the fresh paint, it wont be seen when bed is back on)
17)POR-15 under bed area and under cab(may have to car-lift the truck up for this)
17.5) replace under-bed wiring
18)put bed back on
19)replace wheels/bumper/ and add all the fun stuff!

and all the brake stuff will be rebuilt somewhere in there.

how about that?

LOL! I made plans like that too, but never stuck too 'em :)
I'd recommend doing the underside por15 for the cab *before* painting the interior... its thin and will run in through any holes (with the cab laying on it's back). Also don't forget removing and reworking the seam sealer - its that globby white crap you'll keep finding when cleaning (3M has it in a standard tube for caulk gun).
The cab is movable by 2 men with a good bit of grunting - just get everything out/off of it that you can (incl the glass) - or can lay on it's back (remove cargo light 1st) on some plywood over the frame rails - that makes getting the engine & tranny out a snap.
Looking good!
