Train-vs.-tornado
This is what I have to deal with at work. A train is no match for a tornado. This is raw footage taken from the trailing unit's dash cam. UNREAL. Thank God the crew wasnt hurt.

Was that YOUR train? Nothing like getting hit by your own train!

That's a scary sight, seeing that tanker with the rest of the train pushing behind it, coming straight at you!!

Nope, not mine. Thank goodness. I woluld have liked to been a fly on the wall so to speak. I bet it was a awsome ride!!
They were moving right along, I would say between 40 & 50 MPH. Most UP manifest trains are 50 mph trains. If I had to ride out a direct hit from a tornado, I would want to be in the cab of a road engine. Most are in excess of 225 TONS!

Re: Train-vs.-tornado
hey pb, i have seen this vid before and the only thing i was really wondering about was why they were filming the front of the first car? if this trip would have been as uneventful as most are, what would they have been hoping to see?

Ez, anytime the engine is running, the camera is recording. Regardless of its position in the train. They record for 72 hrs. at a time & then the tape starts looping over the previously recorded data. I would like to see the shot from the lead motor's camera. It would be cool to see it as they ran through it!!!ezernut9mm wrote:hey pb, i have seen this vid before and the only thing i was really wondering about was why they were filming the front of the first car? if this trip would have been as uneventful as most are, what would they have been hoping to see?
