1967 Frame Width

Post by ghumphre »

At one time I was told that the 1967 frame was narrower than other years, is this true? Additionally, is the frame width the same on 4X2 and 4X4 models?

Hey there...welcome to the forums, ghumphre!

All '67-'72 F-100 thru F-350 frames are the same width, regardless of whether it had 2WD or 4WD. The '73-'79 trucks continued with the same width on the front half of the frame but the rear half got 4 inches wider.

Well, I don't know if you could call it good or bad....just different. I suppose it would help rear-end stability a bit, but it sure makes parts-swapping a PIA. The wider frame allows a rear-mount fuel tank, so if you're fixing up an old truck and have access to a '73-'79 chassis, swapping the '67-'72 body onto it is a nice upgrade, since you'll get power steering, power brakes, and the rear-mounted tank.
