POR-15'd my fuel tank today (w/pics)

Post by FORDification »

Spent the morning out in the driveway of the shop getting the fuel tank cleaned up:

..and the afternoon putting several coats of POR-15 on it. The top has two coats, the bottom has four. After it was almost dry I then gave it several coats of semi-flat Krylon. I think it turned out pretty darned good! :D

I've got more pics that I'll post to a project update page tomorrow evening.

That does look good, Keith! Did you mess with the inside of the tank as well?

Definitely....it got the POR-15 gas tank sealer kit. I detailed the process HERE. The tank had a couple small pinholes along the bottom, which I'm really hoping the sealer took care of. I'm also hoping that the 4-5 coats of POR-15 on the tank's exterior will help in keeping it contained.

I take it then that your tank passed it's pressure test and the pin holes are now sealed?

I haven't pressure-tested the tank yet. I wanted to get the tank coated with POR-15 first. I was hoping to get that done this coming weekend before I installed the tank, but I just found out we're going shopping for a minivan instead. But it WILL be done before installing.

Whoops! Just dawned on me that I forgot to post pics of last weekend's activities getting the tank coated. I just took care of that. You can see some more pictures at the following URL:
