Can spark plug wires rest on a heater hose?

Post by mrtleavitt »

I have some MSD spark plug wires that are resting right on top of the heater hoses that enter into the cab. Will wires be okay with this kind of heat or do I need to relocate them some how?

Should be OK ... both are insulated and the heater hose is not conductive.

:yt: and the heat is not a problem... if they were resting on the exhaust then that would be a problem, but the heater hose will not have enough heat to effect the spark plug wires.

Heater hose contains carbon and carbon is a conductor. If the plug wire insulation wears thin voltage will leak to the heater hose.

I would not let your wires rest on the hoses.

mrtleavitt, I will defer to rubiranch greater knowledge of heater hose construction.

I always thought they were rubber or something like rubber .. :? If you keep your ears and eyes open, you learn something new everyday ...

Water inside the hose is also a conductor. I have seen plug wires arc to heater hoses in the dark.
