Headliner speakers

Post by Heavenlyfire »

:D Well I did it. Got very lucky at the local parts yard yesterday and put it all together last night. The headliner was in a 70 F-100. The speakers are 4 inch Pioneer. All I can say is WOW. The sound is awesome. No more blaring the radio just to hear it. I also got the headliner trim with it but it did not fit my truck :hmm: . So if you need a black F-100 headliner ring, let me know. It's in great shape.

Nice setup.

The headliner looks a lot like what they have or had in the back wall of semi-truck sleepers.

So is this a stock headliner just recovered or was this a custom made unit?

Not sure, it looks to be recovered. The cardboard is not in great shape but the vinyl was. His door panels were done the same way. One thing I really liked is that they put a heavy padding behind the vinyl. It really quieted down the inside.

Might have to get something like that for my truck.

Definately nice setup there.

I like it!!! I'm still considering one of those plastic "headliner/speakers/stereo units for mine... but I'd sure like to hear the sound first..

You going to put some speaker covers over the cones?

Just in case you go over a big bump you don't want your hat to smash 'em. ;-)

I do have the covers, but the headliner has so much padding that I need to figure out a way to keep them up there lol. I was looking at those plastic ones too, but I figured that for $269 I could do a lot more for my truck and this worked out very nice.

That does look pretty cool. I'll bet that Armor-All will make that joker shine like the stars. It sounds good huh? No hollowing sound to it?

I had re-covered my headliner...got a cardboard from a local upholstery shop, a damaged one (they said it was damaged and were going to throw it out...I couldn't see the damage).

It sounds great! Trust me guys if you had any worries about doing this, don't worry. The looks are good, the sound is great. And it was easy to do.

Honestly, thanks to the first Gulf conflict, my hearing is not that great from behind. That is the main reason I put them forward so much. But looking back at it, I really like the decision. Not only does the sound fill the cab but I don't have to worry about my hat hitting them lol, as dcbullet pointed out. There is also a little more room between the headliner and the roof the farther forward you go.
