How do you get the knob off without breaking anything?

if it comes off it is probably held on with a pin, use a small drift pin punch and drive it out. :?

I think he's talking about the knob on the end of the arm, not necessarily the whole shifter arm.

I've never tried removing one, but I understand that it's just threaded on. It's probably going to be tighter than heck though, so I'm not exactly sure how one could remove it without damaging it and/or the arm.

Check at your local auto parts store and see if you can find a small strap wrench. I have one that has a plastic handle and a rubber strip. You might be able to use something like that to unscrew the knob. Or if the knob is already trashed, use Vise Grips.

Actually, I believe it's pressed on and after all these years, is virtually impossible to remove it without detsroying it. Maybe with a hair drier to soften and expand it, it might pull off.

Thanks guys i was thinking of replacing it(it is still good) With A Skull That lights up in the eyes every time You shift. Yes Keith understands my babble.

I was trying to keep from ruining it Incase some one needs one. And I don't Want a repeat of March when i had to slam it back into reverse becuase a crazed driver was speeding down the road when i went to leave work. And the part on the inside of the colar broke.

It was A P.I.A. To replace.
