72, f100 4x4, sport custom.

Post by Jsupreme »

Pulled this out of the weeds for free. Got it registered in my name. The cab is pretty gone.
The plan is get it down to frame. And totally rebuild her. I need to find a new cab. I kind of want to make everything nice and just keep the old bed for doing work. I don't know yet.

First, NICE SCORE! OK back to reality, that cab doesn't look like a total loss. Your body line seems pretty straight. I love the 3/4 ton rear axle on the F100. I am sure the front and rear axles are not matched for the ratio. I really think you have a savable truck there.

The firewall is toast. The cowl, inside the dash. It's bad. I would spend a small fortune on fixing all the rust. I would rather start fresh with a nice paint job. But ya,! I am excited!!

Have you started looking for parts? A cab is tough to find around me in the mid atlantic. Whole Trucks are sometimes easier to buy.

Well I got the cab off. Finally found the VIN on the frame. Heavily pitted ,but in good shape. Cab is going bye bye. Pull engine next. Then bed.

I can see what you mean by replacing the cab, if the cowl area in that last picture is an indication of the rust issues.

Update. Got the engine out. Here's my uphill battle. Previous owner really "customized" this. He out a Dana 60 out back and installed a Dana 24 transfer case. It was pretty mickey moused. Can someone tell me of this transmission cross member is stock??

I don't have a 4 X 4 but here is a diagram of the frame from fordification: http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... _frame.jpg

Looks the same to me, but I'm not positive.

Got the bed off. Need to purchase a welder to get some bolts out of the frame and do some touch ups. Sandblasting time is coming soon.
