68 and a EZ Wiring Kt w/ switches

Ok, we are taking the dive head first.....going to replace the complete wiring harness. Never done it before, so it should be fun.

I bought an EZ wiring kit with all the switches and it should be in tomorrow. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions....the first is:

- Do I have to rip out all the old wiring before starting or is there some wiring that should stay?

that would depend on the new wiring your buying. if you bought absoltly everything then you shouldn't need any of the old . but i would read the insturctions that come with the new wiring setup first before you do anything.

I bought from EZ Wiring. It was the 21 ckt 18 fuse model. It ran a total of $258 (this included the wiring harness, ignition switch, wiper switch, light switch and sales tax).

I'll take pictures before and after.

Well, I'm back with a report. We are into the installation of the EZ wiring kit and it is day two. It is not that complicated so far, but I have moved into the cab yet with the Dash and column sections. The motor and front sections are pretty straight forward except for the inline fuse piece I have to put in with the Solenoid power wire coming from the fuse box. I have to make my first call for help to EZ wiring techs tomorrow. Will let you know what happens.

Well, it's been a couple weeks. How's it going?

I have installed the Painless Universal 18 circuit harness in the 68. It took much longer than the instructions made it seem to take. A lot of soldering...

Sorry I haven't gotten back to the forum lately with updates. I've been on the road a lot lately.

I forgot to take pictures also....

The report is that I have all the wiring completed except for three last steps. The first step is where the Alternator light connects to the harness. The folks at EZ Wiring wanted to walk me through that step over the phone...I'm trying to schedule that time right now. The second last step is connecting the backup lights up....I don't know on the transmission to make this connection. And the third last step is that I found a connector on the brake assembly that has two wires coming off it that I don't know where it should connect to the harness or what it might do or be for.....?

I still recommend the EZ wiring kit because if I can do it, it really is easy....
